Apple has unveiled its latest iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods line-up, with updates focused on performance, AI, connectivity and more flexible ways of working.
The headline arrivals are iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, joined by iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Apple has also introduced Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5.
There are plenty of new specifications to digest. There usually are. For businesses, the more useful question is what these changes mean for employees, IT teams and the wider workplace.
Here’s what stands out.
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max: more power for mobile work
Powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and iOS 27, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max bring improvements across performance, battery life, cameras, connectivity and AI.
- Run more demanding workloads. The A20 Pro combines a new CPU, 7-core GPU and Dual 16-core Neural Engine, providing more capacity for demanding business applications, on-device AI and increasingly sophisticated mobile workflows.
- Keep privacy part of the AI conversation. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute when additional processing is needed. For organisations considering how employees use AI with business information, that distinction matters.
- Stay connected away from the office. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread are supported through Apple’s N1 chip, while the new C2 modem improves cellular quality, reliability and upload speeds.
- Work for longer between charges. A redesigned thermal system supports sustained performance, while battery life reaches up to 36 hours of video playback on iPhone 18 Pro and 45 hours on Pro Max eSIM-only models.
- Capture better visual information. The new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture provides more control over photography and video. That could be useful for teams using iPhone for content creation, site inspections, field documentation and other visual workflows.
Apple has also introduced Apple Reference Image, which can create an unalterable reference image using signed sensor data. Combined with metadata identifying AI-generated or edited images, it could have useful applications for organisations where proving the origin and authenticity of visual information matters.
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be available in black, silver, glacier and burgundy. Pre-orders open on 12 September, with availability from 18 September.
iPhone Duo: more screen when work needs it
iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone and brings a new form factor to its mobile range.
Opened, it provides a 7.6-inch inner display. Folded, users have a more compact 5.4-inch outer display.
For businesses, the interesting part isn’t that it folds. It’s what employees can do with the extra space.
- Work across more content. The larger inner display gives employees more room to use multiple applications, review documents and work with detailed information without immediately reaching for a tablet or laptop.
- Move between displays without interrupting work. iOS 27 has been adapted for the folding format, allowing apps and content to transition between the inner and outer screens.
- Handle demanding applications. The A20 Pro chip provides Pro-level performance, supported by a custom vapour chamber and dual-battery architecture.
- Connect wherever work happens. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread are supported through the N1 chip, alongside the latest C2 cellular modem.
- Use AI with more room to work. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are built into the experience, combining contextual assistance with the additional screen space.
For mobile employees who regularly need more screen space but would rather not carry another device, iPhone Duo gives businesses another option to consider.
That doesn’t mean everyone suddenly needs a folding phone. Device choice still comes down to the role, the applications people use and how they work day to day.
iPhone Duo will be available in star white and night sky, with storage from 256GB to 2TB. Pre-orders begin on 16 October, with availability from 23 October.
Apple Watch Series 12: more useful information at a glance
Apple Watch Series 12 builds on Apple’s focus on health, connectivity and intelligence.
Its new Health Sensing System, powered by the S11 chip, provides higher-frequency heart rate and heart rate variability measurements. A new readiness score also brings together information including recent activity, training load, vital signs and sleep.
- Monitor changes in heart rate more frequently. Measurements can now be taken every five seconds throughout the day.
- Understand daily readiness more easily. The new readiness score brings several health and activity measures together into one daily indication.
- See longer-term trends. The redesigned Health app introduces additional insights, including a Longevity tab and Health Age feature.
- Capture useful information. New Audio Intelligence features are designed to help users record important information from conversations and identify important sounds.
For organisations already exploring wearables for employee wellbeing, safety or connected working, these additions broaden what Apple Watch can potentially support.
As ever with workplace health technology, organisations will also need to consider how data is used, managed and protected before turning new capabilities into policy.
Apple Watch Series 12 is available to pre-order now, with availability from 18 September.
Apple Watch Ultra 4: designed for work away from a desk
Apple Watch Ultra 4 combines many of the Series 12 updates with longer battery life and a design intended for more demanding environments.
It includes the new Health Sensing System and S11 chip, higher-frequency heart rate and HRV measurements, and the new readiness score.
Battery life reaches up to 50 hours in everyday use or 84 hours in Low Power Mode, while extended workout modes provide up to 45 hours of outdoor activity tracking.
Combined with on-device GPS, satellite communications and titanium construction, that could make Ultra 4 particularly useful for field-based teams across engineering, utilities, logistics and similar environments where reliable access to technology matters.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 will be available in natural and black titanium. Pre-orders are open now, with availability from 18 September.
AirPods 5: making everyday communication a little easier
AirPods 5 bring Active Noise Cancellation to Apple’s latest open-ear design, alongside new intelligent features.
- Reduce background distractions. Improved Active Noise Cancellation can help employees hear calls and concentrate in busy offices, while travelling or when working remotely.
- Communicate across languages. Live Translation could make multilingual conversations and international meetings easier to manage.
- Access Siri without reaching for a device. When paired with a compatible iPhone, Siri AI provides hands-free access to Apple’s assistant.
- Handle everyday use more comfortably. Improved dust, sweat and water resistance provides additional durability for work on the move.
A second model with a Wireless Charging Case adds longer battery life and on-stem volume controls.
AirPods 5 are available to pre-order now, with general availability from 18 September.
What Apple’s latest launch means for business
There’s more happening here than the usual round of faster processors and longer battery life.
Apple is bringing AI, device performance and new ways of working closer together, while continuing to put privacy and security into the design.
For businesses, iPhone 18 Pro provides more capacity for demanding mobile applications and AI-enabled workflows. iPhone Duo offers another option for employees who need more working space on the move. Apple Watch continues to develop its role in connected working and wellbeing, while AirPods 5 could make everyday communication simpler across different environments and languages.
But new hardware is only part of the picture.
The useful question for IT teams isn’t simply which device has the longest list of new features. It’s which devices suit each role, how they fit with the technology you already use and how they can be deployed and managed without creating unnecessary work for IT.
Getting that right means employees get technology that helps them do their jobs, while the business keeps the visibility, security and control it needs.
