The Client
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, operating more than 450 aircraft, serving over 150 destinations, and employing more than 19,000 staff across multiple countries.
The Challenge
Ryanair wanted to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs by modernising how pilots access critical flight documentation. The airline sought a mobile-first solution to replace heavy paper flight manuals and streamline access to essential aviation applications, while maintaining strict security and compliance standards.
- Operational efficiency: Paper-based flight manuals and documentation were heavy, cumbersome, and costly.
- Cost control: Reducing weight per flight and paper consumption to lower fuel and operational costs.
- Security & reliability: Ensuring mobile devices were secure, reliable, and compliant across a fleet of 4,000 pilots.
- Application management: Deploying and updating aviation applications efficiently across all devices.
- Scalability: Supporting Ryanair’s growth and expanding mobility requirements without disruption.
The Solution
CWSI worked with Ryanair to implement a new Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) program as part of the airline’s Always Getting Better initiative, deploying Ivanti’s Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform to secure, track, and manage devices.
- Advisory services for design and deployment planning.
- Technical services for configuration, integration, and application management.
- Device rollout services to issue 4,000 iPads and onboard pilots efficiently.
- Managed services to monitor, support, and maintain security, compliance, and productivity.
The Result
Ryanair now operates a fully mobile, secure, and scalable EFB program across Europe, improving pilot experience, reducing operational costs, and enabling faster deployment of applications.
Key Outcomes:
- 4,000 pilots equipped with iPads, replacing paper manuals entirely.
- Fuel savings: ~15kg weight reduction per flight.
- Paper reduction: Over 10 million fewer sheets annually.
- Operational efficiency: Simplified logistics and faster access to critical applications.
- Improved pilot experience: Intuitive tools boost satisfaction and productivity.
Why CWSI
