BOOK A MEETING

The Pillars of a Best Managed Company.

For the third year in a row, CWSI has been named one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies – a recognition for operating at the highest standards of business performance. But what is the Best Managed Companies programme, and what does it mean to receive this recognition? Our Chief People Officer, Mickaella Glynn, walks you through.

What is the Best Managed Company program?

Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards programme promotes and recognises excellence in Irish/Northern Irish owned and managed companies, and is the only awards scheme on the island of Ireland that considers business performance from every perspective. Entrants to the programme compete for the designation in a rigorous process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices in addition to the strategy, capability, innovation, culture, and financial performance of their business.

How does the program work?

The overall programme has several categories, from new entrants over requalifying to platinum winners. Participants start working on their entries as early as February, with submission dates in the month of April. The winners are announced in September. CWSI are currently a requalifying winner.

What makes the Best Managed Company program so unique?

The entrants are indigenous Irish companies, and a detailed judging process precedes the recognition, evaluating the entire management team and business strategy. The judges look beyond financial performance to areas such as a company’s environmental, social and governance standards, strategic planning, and talent strategy.

What does it mean to be a Best Managed Company?

For me, I like the entry process which means reflecting on what we have achieved since the last entry submission. You can easily forget all the things you have achieved when you are busy on day-to-day work. The fact the submission doesn’t just focus on financial performance is important to me. There is a big element of focusing on the people side of your business such as company culture, innovation, diversity & inclusion. This year ESG, (Environmental Sustainable Governance) was an important part of the submission. It is very important to CWSI, and I, that we continue to build a long-term sustainable business.

What does it mean to work for a Best Managed Company?

For me, as a member of the Executive Team, it gives me comfort that we have a robust strategy that enables employment growth both externally and internally. It keeps us in touch with what is important when people are making decisions about joining companies. I am also proud to work alongside a great Executive Team who all enable this to happen by ensuring we focus on the right things while building out the business. Rest assured, we try to have fun along the way.
