Blaud Supports Local Authority of ‘s Hertogenbosch in Migrating to Microsoft Intune
After years of managing their mobile devices with MobileIron, local authority of ’s-Hertogenbosch was ready to modernise. As the organisation adopted Microsoft 365 to enable more flexible, cloud-based working, it saw a clear opportunity to streamline its IT landscape. Migrating its Mobile Device Management (MDM) system to Microsoft Intune, which is already included in its Microsoft licensing, promised not only tighter integration, but also a tangible cost advantage.
Yet migrating from one MDM solution to another is no small task. Ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption to the user experience and maximum security required the right expertise. That’s where Blaud came in.
Where Strategy Meets Mobility
As Microsoft 365 became the new foundation for collaboration and productivity, managing mobile devices through a separate platform no longer aligned with the local authority’s long-term IT vision. The ICT team recognised the opportunity to move toward a more integrated approach.
“Almost all our employees use a work-issued smartphone,” explains Herbert van den Abeele, Senior ICT Policy Advisor at local authority of ‘s Hertogenbosch. “We wanted to manage our entire mobile fleet in a single environment that allows us to leverage integration benefits, while also protecting the privacy and security of our organisational data.”
“Since Microsoft Intune was already included in our Microsoft 365 licensing, moving away from MobileIron felt like a natural next step,” Herbert continues. ”But migrating MDM platforms is a complex process that requires the right expertise. Blaud had supported us for years, they even helped implement our previous MobileIron setup, so we knew we could count on their support. Their in-depth knowledge of both platforms and understanding of our organisation made them the ideal partner for this migration project.”
Driving Adoption and Change
To support the transition from MobileIron to Microsoft Intune, Blaud was brought in to design and implement the new MDM environment, create a clear migration plan, and oversee the rollout from start to finish. “We wanted the migration to be as seamless and efficient as possible,” says Kiyarash Kazemi, Security Officer at local authority of ‘s Hertogenbosch. “Blaud supported us every step of the way, from technical configuration to user communication.”
Yet, the migration to Microsoft Intune wasn’t just a technical upgrade, it also marked a change in how employees interacted with their mobile devices. Many users had grown accustomed to Apple’s native mail and calendar apps, and the move to Microsoft’s tools required a shift in daily routines and habits. Recognising that technology alone wouldn’t ensure success, the ICT team placed a strong focus on user adoption.
“We knew that change can be challenging, especially when it affects everyday workflows,” says Kiyarash. “That’s why we invested heavily in clear communication. We didn’t just tell people what was changing, we explained why the change was happening and how it would benefit them.”
Because in-person support wasn’t feasible during the pandemic, the team had to get creative. Blaud developed a concise instructional video that walked users through the migration step by step. A solution that, according to Security Officer Kiyarash, proved more effective than expected. “Most employees were able to complete the transition independently, and for those who encountered issues, Blaud’s helpdesk was ready to assist,” Kiyarish explains. “In just five weeks, the entire organisation had successfully transitioned to Microsoft Intune. Clear communication, intuitive self-service tools, and dependable support proved to be a powerful combination, enabling us to accelerate adoption with minimal disruption.”
A Future-proof, Secure Environment
Looking back, both Herbert and Kiyarash highlight the value of partnering with a team that understands the bigger picture. “Blaud brings the technical knowledge, but also the patience and flexibility to help organisations adapt, especially during unpredictable times like the pandemic,” says Herbert. “Thanks to our collaboration, we now manage our mobile fleet in a fully integrated, secure, and future-proof environment, all delivered within the agreed tmeframe and without incurring additional licensing costs.”
